20th sub-junior National Wushu Championship concludes: J&K stands 4th, wins one gold, 3 silver, 7 bronze medals

Jammu and Kashmir bagged one gold, three silver and seven bronze medals in the 20th sub-junior National  Wushu Championship at Ranchi, Jharkhand.

The event was organised by Jharkhand Wushu Association under the aegis of Wushu Association of India. The event commenced on March 21 and concluded on March 25.

Around 900 players from 35 states and union territories across India participated in the championship to showcase their talent.

Aliza Shah, a 7th standard student from Khayam area of Srinagar, brought laurels home by winning gold for J&K in 45kg weight category. It is her third consecutive medal.

Earlier, she also won two bronze medals in two national championships at Jalandhar and Kolkatta in the year 2018 and 2019 respectively.

Talking to Rising Kashmir, the 11-year-old Aliza said she is grateful to her parents and coaches for giving her proper guidance towards the sports.

“I will work hard for future events. My dream is to represent the country at the international level, and make my parents and the country proud,” she said.

The other medalists are: Kaifa, Zoya, and Bhavneet, who won silver. Chitvan, Kapish, Madhia, Haniya, Rahullaha, and Ansh, who bagged bronze in different weight categories.

Jammu and Kashmir stood fourth in the overall medal tally list with 11 medals whereas third in the girls category.

Pertinently, J&K junior wushu team remained second in the 19th Junior National Championship.

Kuldeep Handoo CEO , Wushu Association of J&K and Dronacharya Awardee congratulated wushu Kids for bringing laurels to Jammu and Kashmir. He praised them for their hard work.

While talking to Rising Kashmir Handoo said it is a matter of pride that more than 15 athletes from Jammu and Kashmir have been shortlisted for the Khelo India National center of excellence.

The championship was inaugurated by Chief Minister Jharkhand Hemant Soren. On the valedictory occasion, president Wushu Association of India, Bhupender Singh Bajwa and CEO Wushu Association of India, Sohail Ahmed distributed prizes among winners.
