Shalimar Bagh is located to the northeast of the Dal Lake. It was built by Shah Jahan, Mughal emperor for his beloved wife 1619. The garden has a splendid Mughal architecture. The layout has is a fine specimen of elaborate architecture. On the first terrace, lies the public garden which is also known as “Diwan-e-Aam”. The second terrace called Diwan-e-Khas is open for the guests and visitors. A total of 410 fountains are located in both the Diwan-e-khas and Diwan-e-Aam. The gushing water of the fountains presents an amazing sight. The Shalimar bagh has stunning arches which are also known as Chini khanas.
