Kashmir Saffron acquires GI.

Kashmir saffron has always been the pride of Jammu and Kashmir and is the only saffron in the world that are grown at an altitude of 1,600 meters. The Saffron cultivated in Kashmir is long, thick, and has a natural deep red color, also has a high aroma, and is processed without adding any chemical. This is famous all over the world as a spice, health rejuvenation, and is also used for cosmetics as well as for medicinal purposes. Protecting the uniqueness of Kashmiri saffron, it has been given a geographical indication (GI) tag. This will protect its identity against the cheaper quality of saffron that is available in the International markets, as due to other saffron, the price of Kashmiri saffron has dropped significantly.
The GI tag will set apart the high-quality saffron from the cheaper varieties and The [GI] barcode on the saffron will display everything including who is the grower, how much has been his yield, and most importantly, the standards of his produce. This will be very helpful for all the exporters from Kashmir and a good sign for the youth who have been wanting to start a business in the field of Kashmiri saffron and can also take the help of the local experts and centers in setting up & kickstarting their business idea.
