Jammu and Kashmir has bagged 10 medals, including six gold and two silver, in JeetKune Do Federation cup held at Chandigarh.
Meanwhile, eight medalists have been selected to represent the country in the World Thai Martial Art Games to be held from March 8 at Pattaya City in Thailand, Adnan Ayoub, Technical Secretary of J&K JeetKune Do Association, who accompanied the team to Chandigarh said.
The JeetKune Do Federation Cup, in which 11 states and Union Territory of J&K participated, was held at Chandigarh from January 31 to February 2, 2020.
“The competition was tough, but our players performed extraordinarily and bagged 10 medals, including six gold and two silver. Eight of medalists have been selected for World Thai Martial Art Games in which players from different countries will particulate,” he said.
The players who have won gold medals in the event include Nasir Ali from Baramulla, TajamulGani from Bijbehara, Abdullah Irshad from Anantnag, RasikManzoor from Rawalpora, SabirAijaz and Anus Bin Yousuf from Natipora.
“Silver medals were bagged by JasifAltaf from Anantnag and OwaisMehraj from Hawal,” Mr Ayoub said, adding bronze medals were won by Yawar Ali from Baramulla and Rizwan Mehdi from Lal Bazar.
“These players represent institutions like Government model high school, Baramulla, Cambridge Public School, Oxford Presentation School, Dr AGMS City School, Spring Buds High School, Boys Higher Secondary School, Natipora and Tibaten Public School,” he added.
Expressing happiness over the performance of the players from J&K in the national event, JeetKune Do Martial Arts Federation, General Secretary, Sifu Lion VikasGihara, said the players from J&K have a good chance of winning medals in the upcoming World Thai Martial Art Games, which will be held in Thailand. “I have seen players from J&K perform in the national event and I’m sure selected martial artists will bag medals in the international event,” he said.
