‘2 kashmiri mountaineers scale 5700 metre Mount DKD 2 peak’

As part of the Indian Mountaineering Foundation (IMF) Pre-Everest training camp, two mountaineers Nawab Moazam Khan and Ghulam Mohammad Wani (Gullu) have scaled the 5700 metre high peak Mount Draupadi Ka Dhandaa 2 (DKD 2) in Uttarakhand.

The two experienced climbers were selected by IMF for its Pre-Everest expedition camp for the IMF Everest Massif expeditions 2020.

IMF as part of Scale four peaks in the ‘Everest massif region’ in the year 2020 from Everest Base Camp is scheduled to launch expeditions to Mt Everest – 8848 Mtrs, Lhotse- 8516 Mtrs, Nuptse – 7861 Mtrs and Pumori – 7161 Mtrs.

Before the expeditions to these four peaks, IMF is holding Pre-Everest expedition camp for the shortlisted mountaineers and the two climbers from Kashmir Nawab and Gullu are part of it. The training camp is being held in Nehru Institute of Mountaineering (NIM)  Uttarkashi.

Nawab and Gullu have been part of the training camp that involves daily training as well as climbing the high peaks.

As part of the training, Nawab and Gullu successfully submitted 5700 metre Mount DKD 2 peak on June 25. They reached the summit at 6:30 am.

Both the mountaineers are qualified mountaineers and have also scaled various high peaks previously.

Nawab Moazam has scaled Mt Kolohoi 5424 mt, Mt Kun (upto 6500 m), Mt Stok Kangri 6135 m, Mt Golap Kangri 5950 m, Mt Harmukh (Triangular peak) 5100 m, Mt Shinmaen 4700 m and Mt Mahadev 3966 m.

Ghulam Mohammad Wani has scaled Mt Kolohoi 5425 m, Mt Nun 7135 m, Mt Stok Kangri 6135 m, Mt Harmukh (Triangular peak) 5100 m, Mt Sunset 4600 m and Mt Mahadev 3966.

If selected during the training camp, both will be part of the next years IMF Everest Massif expeditions 2020.

The climbers have thanked J&K Mountaineering and Hiking Club (JKMHC) President Mahmood Ahmad Shah for the continuous support and encouragement.
