Meet the braveheart Rauf Ahmad Dar, a tourist guide who lost life while rescuing 5 tourists as boat capsizes in Pahalgam

He is the real hero of Kashmir and Kashmiriyat is alive because of people like him. The whole Kashmir should be proud of him. He set a great example of humanity.

Meet the braveheart Rauf Ahmad Dar, a tourist guide who lost life while saving tourists after a boat capsized in Lidder river in Mawoora Pahalgam area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district.

Five tourists including two foreigners were on the boat when it capsized on Friday after it was caught in gusty winds. All passengers onboard fell in the river including Rouh Ahmed Dar.

Rouf Ahmed Dar managed to save all the passengers but went missing in the aftermath.

Search and rescue operation was launched immediately and teams of SDRF, police, and locals supervised by SDM and SDPO Pahalgam searched till late hours on Friday. His body was retrieved on Saturday near Bhawani bridge from Lidder.

Dar’s body has now been handed over to his family after completion of medical and legal formalities.

Deputy Commissioner of Anantnag has recommended Rouf Ahmed Dar for a bravery award.

Meanwhile, National Conference leader Omar Abdullah took to Twitter to salute the braveheart who died while saving lives. “My salute to this braveheart Rauf Ahmad Dar. He saved the tourists from his capsized raft but lost his own life in the process. May Allah grant him the highest place in Jannat,” Omar Abdullah tweeted.

This is what Kashmiriyat stands for.  May Allah grant him with highest place in Jannat.
