Rafiya Farooq under the guideance of IUST launched “Sunshine Washing Centre”, aspiring other youth for Entrepreneurship

Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST)’ Entrepreneurship Development cell (EDC) launched a student entrepreneurial venture “Sunshine Washing Centre”, in the Girls Hostel of IUST here on Tuesday, which is an initiative by a girl student from the Department of MBA.

This new startup is by MBA student, Rafiya Farooq and was inaugurated by the Vice Chancellor IUST, Prof. Mushtaq A. Siddiqi.

Rafiya Farooq , the startup entrepreneur said , “I have been in hostels since long and I saw students face a lot of problems in washing their clothes so this idea struck my mind and the EDC of IUST helped me in accomplishing my dream of starting “Sunshine Washing centre”, She said.

She further added “I am currently employing one female and after four months I would be employing more and also will start this in all other hostels of IUST”.

Tanisha, a boarder of hostel said this startup will help us a lot as we were facing a lot of problems in washing the blankets and other heavy clothes and also there was the problem of ironing so it will help us to overcome these woes.

While speaking on the occasion Prof. Siddiqi said “A proper mentoring team should be created by the EDC, which would help in encouraging young entrepreneurs and developing confidence in the young minds. These types of startups are creating a sense of security for future among the youth,” he said.

Chairperson ,Entrepreneurship Development corporation cell (EDC), Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Mir, present on this occasion said, “The purpose of EDC cell is to change the mindset of students towards entrepreneurship and to develop the willpower for taking risks in order to convert them to opportunity”.

He further added our next step with regard to “Sunshine Washing Centre” is to register this as a private company and then apply for seed capital startup grant from State government and thus take this startup as full-fledged organization.

Among other present at the inauguration were Dean School of Technology Prof. A. H Moon, Dean School of Humanities and Scoial Sciences Prof. Abdul Salam Bhat, HOD of MBA Dr Asif Fazili, Members of EDC Monisa Qadri, Dr. Abid Ahmad Shalla, Dr. Basharat Nabi and other faculty members and students.
