90 smart city projects completed, 60 nearing completion

Srinagar Smart City project official on Friday said that out of 168 projects, 90 smart city initiatives have been completed, while 68 projects worth over 490 crore are currently underway in downtown areas and nearing completion.

According to the official, the downtown area is of significant importance, with ongoing projects including public space improvement and street enhancement covering a length of more than 25km, along with illumination and facade improvement initiatives.

He highlighted that the famous Habba Kadal was recently inaugurated as one of the flagship projects in downtown Srinagar. All ongoing projects are progressing as scheduled and are expected to be finished before June 2024.

The Srinagar Smart City Limited (SSCL) works have been meticulously planned and diligently implemented, with work ongoing both during the day and at night in two shifts, official stated.
“The downtown locality is undergoing extensive infrastructure works that will improve the comfort and convenience of residents by streamlining drainage, sewage, communications, and electricity in addition to road surfaces.” states official

Because subsurface activities require excavation, he said homeowners and shoppers may experience some short-term annoyance as a result of infrastructure works. “Nonetheless, the project is moving along according to plan, and SSCL is enhancing roads, drainage systems, lighting, geometric layouts, signage, footpaths, and on-street parking.”

The Dal Gate Gojwara road project, which is being implemented for 25 crore, and the 50 crore street upgrades in the regions of Bohri Kadal, Maharaj Bazaar, and Ali Kadal are among the projects listed in the news story.

The combined length of these projects is over 25 km, involving road surface enhancements and footpath reconstruction. Underground utility shifting, drainage works, etc., have already been completed, and the top surface work is being carried out in double shifts to ensure timely completion.

SSCL officials stated that all necessary precautions are being taken on the ground to minimize inconvenience to locals during the execution of such projects. People are requested to cooperate with the assurance that the projects are time-bound and will be completed by the end of June this year.
