Pinning hope on achieving major success in the upcoming 6th Snowshoe national championship to be held in Gulmarg from March 18 to 21, the Jammu and Kashmir Snow Shoe Association (JKSSA) official Wednesday said all preparations are in place and they are expecting a major haul by the J&K team in the event.
More than 100 athletes including both male and female from 14 State and Union territories are being expected to take part in this mega event.
While speaking to Rising Kashmir President J&K Snow Shoe Association Tariq Zargar said that it is a big responsibility and challenge for the hosts to conduct such a major event smoothly.
“But we have put all the arrangements in place already for the forthcoming snowshoe national championship to be held Gulmarg from March 18 to 21, 2022,” he said, adding they are sure that event will be a major success.
“We had already shortlisted the J&K team for the event by holding open trials. They are ready and we expect them to perform well and bag medals for J&K,” he said.
Zargar added in the long-distance events they expect a major medal haul while as in sprint events, it will be tough to compete against athletes from other states.
“We are getting full support from the Tourism Department of Kashmir for the event who knew that this activity has got immense potential,” he said, while adding that they will also be getting on-ground support from HAWS at the venue during competition days.
Athletes are to be expected to arrive on March 18 and the inauguration of the event is scheduled to be held on March 19 in Gulmarg followed by long-distance events in both male and female categories.
However, on 20th March short distance sprint events are to be held in both male and female categories in Gulmarg bowl and Kongdoori followed by a prize distribution ceremony in the evening.
Earlier on Monday, Director Tourism, Kashmir Dr. GN Itoo, have unveiled the medals, customized T-Shirts, and caps for the upcoming SnowShoe Championship.
The 6th SnowShoe Championship is being organized by the J&K SnowShoe Association in collaboration with the Directorate of Tourism Kashmir and under the aegis of the Snowshoe Federation of India.
