2-week online refresher course in Gender Studies concludes at KU

Kashmir University Vice-Chancellor Prof Talat Ahmad chaired the valedictory session of a refresher course in gender studies.

30 teachers from universities and colleges participated in the two-week online course, organised by the varsity’s UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC).

Addressing the participants, Prof Talat, who was the chief guest, highlighted the importance of gender studies in the contemporary world to study its different perspectives and dimensions.

“Gender Studies is an emerging interdisciplinary area where significant research can be done on its different aspects and themes. I urge young students and teachers to focus on interdisciplinary approach to academics and research in accordance with the objectives enlisted in the National Education Policy-2020,” he said.

He said refresher courses like these would enable teachers to learn from renowned experts in the field of gender studies and pass that learning on to their students.

Prof Nilofar Khan, Course Coordinator and Guest of Honour, talked about the emerging issues and challenges in the field of gender studies and gave an overview of the entire course.

Thanking the Chief Guest, Course Coordinator as well as the participants, Director HRDC Prof Mushtaq Ahmad Darzi threw light on the significance of refresher and orientation courses to update teachers about new trends in different fields of study. He said the university authorities are providing their full support and cooperation to the programmes organised by the HRDC for the benefit of teachers.

Several participants gave their feedback and thanked the HRDC team for organising the course which offered them a new vision and understanding of the term “gender”.

Coordinator HRDC Dr Sumeer Gul moderated the event and also delivered a vote of thanks.

Eminent resource persons for the course were from renowned institutions like SRTM University, Maharashtra, Punjab University, JNU, Delhi University, Kurukshetra University, University of Calcutta, Maitreyi College, South Asian University, SKIMS Srinagar, IUST and Central University of Kashmir  who spoke on challenges and opportunities for the attainment of “gender equality” across the globe.
