16 years old Kashmiri boy wins $64k scholarship to study in US

For 16-year-old talented and full of energy Daniyal Kabir Dar, to pursue a mechanical engineering course on $65000 scholarship in the United States of America is a dream come true.

Daniyal has won a prestigious scholarship in Michigan State University worth $ 64,000 (Rs 46 lakh), which includes $ 5000 as a presidential scholarship, that is awarded to selected few students from across the world.

“It is important to work hard in order to get success. Your vision should be clear for what you want to do and surely success will follow you. I thank Almighty Allah for this achievement,” says Daniyal.

Daniyal is ecstatic about his achievement. As per Daniyal, for last few years, he has been interested in Maths and Physics subjects, which has been a guiding factor for securing the scholarship.

“I owe a lot to my parents and school for their unflinching support. I received great help from the counsellor of my school and the management. Being part of various social impact projects with different organisations is something I am passionate about and this has helped my career growth,” says Daniyal.

During his 11th standard examination, Daniyal who had opted for non-medical stream had scored well in Maths and Physics subjects. Daniyal says he wants to become a successful engineer adding that he applied for the scholarships soon after passing the 11th standard examination.

“For securing the scholarships, the results of academic career from my 9th to 11th grade examinations and 12th mid-term results along with extracurricular activities were taken into consideration. I achieved this success after participating and showing leadership skills at various competitions such as Model United Nations,” says Daniyal.

“I scored well in the Subject Scholastic Aptitude Test (SAT), which provided me a great boost. Our school has a tie-up with a career counselling organisation which helped me to gain one-on-one counselling and during the entire process,” says Daniyal.

Daniyal says American College Testing (ACT) assessment which he qualified, measures high school students’ general educational development and their capability to complete college-level work with the multiple choice tests covering four skill areas: English, mathematics, reading, and science.

Daniyal had appeared in ACT with its test centre at Jammu. Presently, he is pursuing his education in non-medical stream in Pratap World School, Pathankot.

“I had made no special preparation for appearing in these tests. In fact, the ACT concept is different. They don’t want you to qualify or crack any examination by scoring marks. But they make your all over assessment through various yardsticks,” he said.
With this prestigious scholarship in his kitty, Daniyal wants to contribute for the overall development of Jammu and Kashmir.
