12-year-old Kulgam boy develops gas leak detector, moisture sensor

Momin Ishaq, a 12-year-old innovator from Munad Guffan village in Kulgam district, has once again impressed with his creativity.
This time, he has designed a gas leak detector aimed at preventing accidents caused by gas leaks.
Momin, who is in Class 4, has already made a name for himself with several inventions, including an egg incubator, a fire detector, and a multitasking machine.
Speaking to Rising Kashmir, he said that his latest creation, the gas leak detector, was inspired by incidents where gas leaks led to accidents.

The device, powered by a battery and equipped with sensors, detects gas in the air and triggers an alarm and light, warning people of potential danger.“I used a battery, sensor, power supply, cut plate, and other instruments to complete the gadget at home. It not only sheds light but also gives an alarm when it detects gas, helping to prevent harm,” Momin said.

In addition to the gas detector, Momin also introduced a “Moisture Detector” designed to keep plants hydrated. The sensor, placed in flower pots, monitors moisture levels in the soil. When the soil becomes dry, a water pipe is automatically activated to irrigate the plant.

Momin, who has been experimenting with innovations for a couple of years, said that his journey is just beginning. “I have a lot of ideas, but I need support to transform them into reality,” he said, calling for assistance to further develop his creations.
Despite his young age, Momin’s innovative thinking has the potential to make a significant impact, not just in his village but beyond.
